by Luke & Sandi Queen

For three years now, my dream was to write a cursive writing program based on picture study of classic works of art, using copywork as its base. This year, my dream came true, as four of our children helped me finalize the plans and get the nitty-gritties all worked out. We are happy to at last make available the program I have been talking about to homeschoolers at conventions for the past three years – FINALLY ready for your use!!! Our Pictures in Cursive series contains four volumes, each based around fine works of art. You may take a peek inside these books on our web site! They are incremental in nature; each book getting a bit more challenging than the last, with slightly smaller writing spaces. Consumable, each book contains 12 weeks’ worth of cursive practice, assuming you are doing cursive each day.

Father to Son DVD Set

fathertoson

This product is naow available from Chariot Press.

Set of 6 DVDs

Fathers need to begin speaking to their sons. But the conversation can’t be aimless or trivial. Fathers need to talk in manly and specific ways about the duties of Christian manhood. This six-part DVD series is designed to provide fathers and future fathers with simple examples of manly discussion. Where does a dad begin? With the pressing issues that weigh on young minds, these informal, unrehearsed conversations between Geoffrey Botkin and his five sons show how it can be done.

Each episode tackles an age appropriate discipline of manhood and how it is developed with fathers. Sons learn the disciplines of manhood through hard work. Fathers interpret the world for sons through shared adventures. Sons learn leadership duties through worship. Sons learn to conquer the world by dominion and to hold the ground they take through spiritual battle. Each rich conversation is broken into short study segments, and thorough Bible-study notes are provided as PDFs which can jump-start family or Bible-study discussions. Also included is the sixth bonus DVD: How To Talk to Your Sons and 103 pages of study materials.

I’d like to prescribe this series for every father in America. Fathers desperately need to turn their hearts to their sons. This series will give them confidence to do it.”
— D. Matthew Clark, M.D.

We have found these DVD’s an excellent aid in discipling our sons.  Not to be a replacement to talking with your sons by any means, but a great jump start for many families with boys.  Our daughter also benefitted from them. Many important topics are covered from work, worship and war to adventure and many others.  A very useful tool.

Creation or Evolution

Creation or Evolution

creation_or_evolutionby Mike Snavely

Have you ever seen a curriculum designed specifically to deal with the creation vs. evolution issue?  If you’re like us, you have probably always taught your children about creation, but here is a workbook to help cement all your teaching, and perhaps a few more important facts , into your children’s minds. This book is designed for self-study purposes, for anyone 6th grade and above, but could be used for students as young as 10 if done along with an adult.  It contains forty lessons that are divided into seven units.  Most lessons have worksheets, and all units have tests.  Most use this for their children as a Bible supplement.  It’s designed to answer many of the questions asked on the issue of origins:

•Where did you come from? Why are you alive?

•Were you created, or did you evolve?

•Does it make a difference what you believe?

•How long were the “days” of creation?

•What is science? What is evolution?

•Does science support the theory of evolution?

•What happened to the dinosaurs?

•Was the flood really worldwide?

•Where did all the water go?

•What does nature have to say about origins?

•Were there “hominids” in the past – evidence of human evolution?

This curriculum answers these and many other questions. It is designed to give the student a well-rounded view of the whole “creation model” of origins.  This study of the biblical account of origins will stretch the student’s faith in the written Word of God and encourages confidence when facing a world hostile to its message. All tests and answers included. 147 pages; 450g.

The Door in the Wall

door-in-wallby Marguerite De Angeli  $13.65 This product is available for purchase from Chariot Press.

Set in the middle ages. Robin has grown up the son of a nobleman and knows he must serve the king by becoming a knight.  But his destiny is changed suddenly when he falls ill and loses the use of his legs. A monk rescues Robin and cares for him at a hospice.  There he learns woodcarving and – much harder – strength and patience. When danger threatens, Robin discovers there are more ways to serve the king than riding into battle. The monk tells Robin he must only follow the wall long enough and there will be a door in it.

A favourite story in our home about endurance and the opportunities afforded through suffering that otherwise would remain unknown to us.  For ages 8+; PB, 100g.

Material World

material-world1by Peter Menzel  $45

This huge (255 full-color photographed pages), oversized coffee-table type book is subtitled “A Global Family Portrait”.

Picture this: Full color photographs of families from all over the world, standing outside of their homes, with everything they own in the world stacked up around them. That’s what this book is. You can view families from half a world away who have 12 people living in a one-room hut, who own between them nothing more than a bag of rice, 2 chickens, a bowl, a pot, a blanket, and the clothes on their back. Turn a few pages and see an American family in all their stark contrast, as their belongings for their family of 5 don’t even fit in the 2-page photo spread and have to be listed separately as “additional items owned”.

Divided into sections such as “Islands”, “Middle East”, etc., this book makes it easy to look up a specific country or area that you are studying, and see how the people live there, from the viewpoint of one average family. It also tells you a biography on each family, what they do each day, how they live, etc.
It really “brings the world home to you”. A must-have, high interest book.  It also makes a popular gift book. Flexicover,  1.2kg.

Suited to children aged 12+, 90p.
